Annual General Meeting 1999

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Held at La Trobe University
Friday, 9th July, 1999, commencing at 5.00pm

1. Present

3. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the previous General Meeting held at the Thredbo Village, Thursday, 4th February, 1999 have been circulated. V. Borrett/P. Cullis moved that the minutes be accepted as a true and correct record of the meeting.


4. Business Arising from the Previous Meeting
1. Apart from the special lectures to be presented by Catherine Fenselau and Bob Cotter, there will not be any interconference lecturer for 1999. However, it is hoped to make a decision on a lecturer for 2000 within the next few months. Suggestions for consideration by the committee should be submitted as soon as possible.
   
   
2. As secretary of the IMSS, John MacLeod has been invited to be a member of the Organising Committee of the 15th IMSC. Consequently, he has submitted his resignation as ANZSMS representative to the IMSC. The President thanked John for his efforts in representing the ANZSMS in the international forum over the past 12 years. It was moved (M. Sheil/P. Cullis) that John Traeger be the new representative.
   
   
3. The ANZSMS has officially registered the WWW domain name of "www.anzsms.org" at a cost of $180 for a 2-year period. Due to technical difficulties with the nameserver, this has not yet been implemented but is expected to be operational within the next two weeks.
   
   
4. In March this year the ANZSMS became a financial member of the International Mass Spectrometry Society.
   
   
5. No further progress has been made on making the Mass Spectrometer registry available via the ANZSMS www site.
   
   
6. Because of time restrictions, it was not possible to circulate an amendment to the Constitution regarding the present quorum of 20 members and the possibility of proxy votes. This will now be deferred until next year's AGM.


5. Society Reports
1. President's Report
   
   The President's Report was tabled. M. Sheil/P. Cullis moved the report be accepted.
   
   
2. Treasurer's Report
   
   J. Traeger presented the Treasurer's Report on behalf of Karina Watkins. V. Borrett/P. Cullis moved that the report be accepted.
   
   
3. Local Branch Report
   
   An audited financial statement for 1/8/98 to 31/3/99 from the Brisbane Branch of the Society was presented. The closing balance held by the branch was $457.47. J. Traeger/M. Sheil moved that the report be accepted.
   
   
4. ANZSMS17 Report
   
   Margaret Sheil presented a brief report on the post-conference status of ANZSMS17. She indicated that the conference would make a net loss of approximately $700 when all accounts were finally closed. The ANZSMS has been reimbursed for the initial seeding grant of $8000 (being received after 31/3/99, this does not appear in the Treasurer's Report).


6. Election of Central Committee

The following members were elected to the committee:

There being no further nominations, all of the above were elected unopposed.

 
7. General Business

John Traeger reported that the ANZSMS18 Conference Committee had confirmed 4th-8th February, 2001 for the date of the next conference. It is to be held on the Queensland Gold Coast at Legends Hotel, Main Beach. Carillon Conference Services have been selected as the Conference Organiser. Several plenary lecturers have already accepted invitations. The Morrison Lecturer will be selected by the central committee within the next two months.

As there was no other business, the meeting closed at 5.35 pm.
