Annual General Meeting 2008


MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Held via teleconferencing, on Friday 29th August 2008 at 10.00 am IT Research Computing Services, 723 Swanston Street, University of Melbourne, with nodes at University of Wollongong.


1. Present

Melbourne: Richard O'Hair, George Khairallah, Andrew McAnoy, Katherine Russell, Linda Feketova, Adrian Lam, Farrah Wang, Nicole Rjis.

Wollongong: Stephen Blanksby, Todd Mitchell, Martin Paine, Jane Deeley, Thitima Urathamakul, Benjamin Kirk.

3. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The minutes of the 2007 Annual General Meeting held on Monday August 27, commencing at 10 am, hosted at the University of Melbourne, with nodes at University of NSW, University of Wollongong, ANU, University of Sydney, and previously circulated, were accepted as a true and correct record of the meeting. 5. Society Reports

  1. President's Report

    Richard O'Hair presented his President's Report.

  2. Treasurer's Report

    Richard O'Hair tabled the 2007-2008 financial statement prepared by Simin Maleknia. Stephen Blanksby moved that the financial statement be accepted, subject to the approval of the auditor. 2nd by Todd Mitchell and passed unanimously. The report to be signed by Simin Maleknia and Richard O'Hair.

  3. ANZSMS22 Report

    Richard O'Hair tabled the following report prepared by Kevin Downard:

    ANZSMS22 is on track and ahead of schedule. Speakers, from all corners of the world to cover all areas of mass spectrometry, and a number of major sponsors already secured. All venues and catering arrangements are secured with seed funding. Registration will open in October. The conference promises to the biggest and best yet and will celebrate 60 years of mass spectrometry in Australia. A conference web page is active at: http://www.mmb.usyd.edu.au/ANZSMS22/


6. Election of Office Bearers

The following members were elected to the committee:

As there were no further nominations, all of the above were elected unopposed.

Carolyn McKinlay was reappointed as the Public Officer. Richard O'Hair is the immediate Past-President and Kevin Downard is the ANZSMS22 Convenor.


7. Any Other Business

    7.1 T shirts:
    It was recommended that after T-shirts had been distributed to members, that the residual ones be presented at upcoming ANZSMS sponsored meetings (Charles Hocart at Canberra and Sam Nellis at Brisbane.

    7.2 Constitutional changes:
    These to be advertised in time for the General meeting at ANZSMS22.

    7.3 Election of officer bearers at general meetings:
    Stephen Blanksby noted that there had been previous discussions of changing the constitution to allow election of officer bearers of the executive committee for 2 year terms at the General meeting associated with each ANZSMS conference. This matter to be further investigated.

    7.4 Medals:
    Number of medals to be struck are: ANZSMS - 10 medals; Morrison - 20 medals; Bowie - 10 medals. Morrison medals to be distributed to all past Morrison lecturers at ANZSMS22.

    7.5 ANZSMS23:
    The next conference venue and committee should be decided at the general meeting of ANZSMS22. Possible venues include Canberra and Western Australia.


There being no further business, O'Hair declared the meeting closed at 10.35 am.
