As part of the assessment of high resolution mass spectrometers to satisfy the requirements of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), the Bruker BioApex 47e was evaluated. Data were collected on a variety of sample types including natural products, synthetic macrocyles, and a crustacean peptide. Analyses included the application of electrospray (ESI), EI, CI, and pulsed SIMS (negative ion mode) sources.

Representative results are presented, demonstating the capabilities of the FTMS in terms of mass accuracy, resolution, and tandem MS, including MS/MS/MS.

The results compare favourably with results on the same samples from magnetic sector instruments (data not shown).
